3/17/26 Who touched the thermostat

Image
Good day all, I hope all of you have had a wonderful week while I have been cooked alive by the California sun. And temperatures will only keep rising this week... who do I complain to about 90° weather in March. Jokes aside it has been a great week and the heat was a inconvenience and a bother but it didn't stop Elder Swindler and I from working hard.  The highlights of this week were Zone Conference and a visit to the temple. Conference was fun over in Fairfeild and there was some great advise given to everyone. The Cawleys (Mission Housing Coordinators) did a spring cleaning message and invited us to do 2 hours of cleaning today... cleaning is hard but it was sorely needed. Then on Friday we had a afternoon road trip to the temple. The temple over in Oakland is closed for cleaning so we had the long haul to go to the Sacramento temple. One looooooooong ride later and we made it just barely in time due to good ol traffic. The temple itself was great with it's beauty and arti...

3/9/26 Mormon Cowboy

Image
Hey all, This week has been a wild ride. I moved down to Vallejo and it was like going from a stroll to a sprint in terms of the speed and the intensity of the missionary work. And day one a random dude exclaimed "I didn't know they had Mormon cowboys" seeing my hat. Nothing too crazy to report other than meeting a member who knows my cousin who served his mission just south in the San Fran/Oakland mission. He was super jolly about having a second Elder Hsu. I don't really got anything else love y'all. Signed,  Elder Hsu,  Pics: 1- the Mormon Cowboy  2- there are some bold cats here

3/2/26 Farewell Santa Rosa

Image
Hey all, This week was great and it ended with transfer news. Drumroll....... I am being moved to Vallejo. My farewells for the ward here were said and tomorrow I am off to new sights.  This week saw a mini summer. Temperatures were touching 70-75° and I had to readjust to the warmer weather. But there were tons more happening this week. The biggest event was the Sisters had a longtime friend get baptized. It was also his birthday so 2 for 1 great day. Elder Charter baked cookies with some Andes mint chips and they were delicious they also disappeared quickly. Packing unlike the last few times i was transferred has proved a little more of a challenge but I will conquer the rest of it tonight because last minutes is always the best option (that was mostly a joke). I hope you all have a beautiful week wherever and whatever you are doing. 2/23/26 Another week of windchill wonderland

Image
Good day all, This week was entirely unremarkable but also quite enjoyable. It was just a good week. The weather was half sunny half overcast with tons of wind. And the days just flew by. The transfer is coming to a close and I have heard it implied many times from the people in charge that they think I need some change so I am likely to be seeing new places soon. I am now stuck guessing a dozen different places but I think I am going to end up wrong on all fronts. But that doesn't mean I stop working hard. This week I started trying everything using "all lines in the water" meaning I was teaching new people through a variety of methods such as: tracting, talking to people on the street, calling people taught in the past, and members introducing us to their friends! For those of you reading who are members invited your friend to an activity or a linger longer and introduce them to the missionaries. For those of you who aren't members go and say hi to the missionaries ...

2/16/26 Rain has returned

Image
Good day all! This is your update on the NorCal adventures of Elder Hsu. This week saw beautiful sunlight and temperatures that would be considered a delightful spring day, followed by rain like the ocean was coming down upon us. And I got absolutely drenched by a 15 minute bike ride. My shoes were lakes and my entire attire needed to be tossed straight into the laundry. This week was miraculous with how many people we encountered that were interested in hearing us out. We have had much more success after we started working in earnest. And we brought other small miracles to those around us along the way. As mentioned above we arrived at a member dinner absolutely drenched from head to toe and on our way out the brother offered Elder Charter a spare jacket. That jacket happened to have something in its pocket... a phone that had been missing for 3 months. He thanked us for the discovery and we went our way into the dark and rain. I hope everyone is doing great and now that a new Apostle...

2/9/26 I am running out of funny ideas

Image
Good day all, This week was uneventful to the maximum. We have finally overcome the sicknesses and injuries that plagued us and now are back on the work grind. We had Zone conference with some really great news and updates moving forward. Unfortunately Zone conference was not all fun and games because Elder Charter who is allergic to beans had to fast for the lunch of chili.  Otherwise I also got to know the new service missionary in our ward named Elder Washington. He is a convert who went out on a mission and returned for medical reasons and after only a week he is already super helpful in the ward. He is such a hard worker and I look forward to working with him. As everyone does at this point in the year my new years resolution has started gathering dust in my proverbial shelf and... that isn't good. So check alongside me on reviewing your new years resolutions and how they may need to be updated or just reinstated. Because I know I am not the only one who needs it, right? I lov...

2/2/26 Stayin Alive

Image
Good day all, It has only been a little bit incentive my last update so obviously there is not much more to report on.  We closed the week with Elder Charter recovering enough to do some light missionary work. And we got back into the swing of things. Elder Ritchie has been a great help these last few days because driving around and visiting people let's Elder Charter rest more and recover faster.  The other notable event of the week was on Sunday we had planned everything meticulously so that we would be on time... then Elder Charters bike went kaput. That left us stranded and late. Thankfully we were able to call in a ride from Elder Ritchie to make it to our appointments. Fortunately we had the spare time in the evening to repair the problem as well so we are starting out with a strong foundation of working bikes. I wish you all the best of weeks and enjoy Febuary and all it may bring.  Bye,  Elder Hsu  Pic- My companion needs a haircut
