7/21/25 I soloed a baptisim!

Hey all,

This week was a wild one. To start the week Elder Swenson and I packed up our bags. His to go home and mine to go over the the Lakeport missionaries. They ended up running into a bad bit of carsickness on their way over to pick me up at Santa Rosa. They weren't too excited about doing the 1.5 hour drive at 9 PM. So all four of us stayed with the AP's (assistants to the mission president) for the night. The rest of the week was wrapping up loose ends left in Clearlake. Lessons and people we weren't able to give advance notice to about Elder Swenson's departure. So... it was extremely busy.
The biggest loose end was a baptism planned for this last Sunday. David Wilson he has been taught for a long time and had strong ties to the Ward and the senior missionaries. I ended up dragging Elder Grighun and Elder Latham back and forth planning out the baptismal service and checking the last few boxes needed before Sunday. We ended up getting permission from President Quinn to let me attend the Clearlake Ward with the senior missionary couple, the Harmers. It was a fun bit of chaos the countdown and prep for the service but all is well that ends well. David was successfully baptized and confirmed a member! I won't be able to visit him for awhile but the Harmers will be helping them prepare to go to the temple.
In light of a baptism I would review the promises made. To:
1- Take the name of Christ and represent him
2- Keep the commandments god has given us
3- Help and support others (Mosiah 18:9)
This isn't a one time thing this is a promise we must keep for the rest of our lives. We were promised to have his spirit, God's spirit to be with us as we keep those promises.
Word of advise from the week. If at first you don't succeed, find out why. This I believe is more accurate due to how often I find people trying to force their way through a situation when there are simpler or safer options. But of course after the 'find out why' that is when you make a plan and try again.

Hey, all This is the weekly update from NorCal. Post general conference has been quite fun as the weather turns colder and rainier. Today we have a large downpour just like home. My reaction of excitement was the opposite of all the other missionaries. There has been some illness working it's way around since the beginning of this month and it has started impacting missionary work due to people we are teaching catching said cold. But we are making the most of it. Fortunately I have some great luck or something of that nature because I haven't been hit hard by any illness so far as a missionary (knock on wood). Just 2 weeks left of this transfer and we are closing in on the end of the month. I am turning 20 soon and the realization of the number has finally caught up with me. I am an old man, ancient in fact I was 16 just a little bit ago. Now with 1 week fallout I will add 1 more general conference talk to those I recommend and dude enjoy. 7/14/25 Well... my comp is goin home

Hey all, Big yet unfortunate news. Elder Swenson is going home. After we received the news we have changed gears to farewells and packing. I, on the other hand, am put in a unprecedented situation. This transfer was a rarity in there are no missionary trios anywhere in the mission. Meaning that I still haven't received news on what is happening to me or the Clearlake area. Elder Swenson has taken this development in stride and is planning on coming back out after a brief time home. That was the doozy of the week other highlights we attended a retirement party for one of our ward members and lent a hand with it's setup and cleanup. We also had zone conference this week where we were encouraged to work with the local members. When trying a new thing it is a lot easier when someone you trust is there to help and reassure. 2/7/25 Welcome to the MTC

After last weeks problems with flight itinerary I thought that there wouldn't be any problems... I was wrong, very wrong. My initial flight was at 7:00 ish meaning I would need to wake up at 4 and at 4 I am woken up and told that my flight was canceled. So after getting a bit more sleep I called the travel office and got a flight at around 5 PM. My flight was rather uneventful and I only met 2 other missionaries after the flight at the SLC airport.  I arrived at the MTC after 10:30 and didn't get to the dorms till 11 or so. Other news is I am adjusting family well to MTC life and have an good (enough) companion in Elder Ashton.  MTC overall has already been quite the experience and I got 2 more weeks of it to go.
